A Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) Meeting to Identify and Elaborate an Option for International Cooperation on Migratory Sharks under CMS was scheduled to take place at Mahe, Seychelles, 24-26 January 2007.

This meeting was to examine the (i) conservation status of sharks defined as migratory under CMS, (ii) existing international, regional and other initiatives to improve the conservation status of migratory sharks, including lessons learned, and (iii) options for international cooperation under CMS.

Whale sharks were to be a major species of concern under discussion.

The meeting, sponsored by the Government of Seychelles, the Australian Department of the Environment and Heritage, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of the United Kingdom, the Pew Fellows Programme in Marine Conservation and CMS, will now be convened in the fourth quarter of 2007.
