February News
2008 is off to a great start sightings wise, normally the Red Sea is quiet during January and February and encounters are scarce... however this year we have had three sightings since January 24th!
To summarise -
24th January, Hurghada Sheraton Hotel area, 9m long
7th February, Shoni Soraya Port Ghalib area, 4m long
8th February, Abu Dabab area south Marsa Alam,12m long
Divers in the southern Red Sea at the Brothers Islands and from Marsa Alam to Daedalus Reef and beyond experienced very poor visibility during the end of January and first weeks of February. Drifts of luminscent jellyfish, cone jellies, krill and clouds of plankton could be seen near to the surface. Water temperatures are between 21- 22C. and Full Moon.
Photos and videos being tracked so we aim to increase the numbers of identified whale sharks in the Red Sea this year.
