Rescheduled: 2nd International Whale Shark Conference.

The 2nd International Whale Shark Conference has been postponed due to Hurricane Dean. Message from Paco below. We'll keep you updated on the potential reschedule. Our best wishes and prayers go out to the Isla Holbox community and those in Honduras and Belize who weathered out the storm.

Dean Hurrican is going to South Quintana Roo y Belice and the people from there will be looking for their safety. (and good luck).

Probably (if track probability does not change) is not hitting Holbox, but the people from there has been evacuated and supplies are diminished a lot.

We had been  thinking to change to Cancún, but airport now is closed and the people in Holbox is a big part of this initiative, we think must be in Holbox.

 

In order of that, we just take the decision to postpone the Conference.

Some of you wrote to me telling me that a part of the interest to come are the Whale Shark aggregation, that is from May to August, more animals in august and better sea conditions (except for hurricanes).

Then,

1st. the Conference will be done in Holbox.

2nd. The dates will be late November or late August as now considering the 30th of August “Mexican Whale Sharks Day”.

3rd. This 2nd. Point will be submitted to all of you during next week to have a decision consensed.

If there are some of you (just a few) that still coming even with some difficulties, just tell to us, we will be looking for you.

Hola a todos,

El huracán Dean se ha desplazado hacia el sur de Quintana Roo y Belice y la gente de allá está preocupada por su seguridad.

Probablemente (si las probabilidades del transecto futuro no cambian), no va a llegar a Holbox, pero la gente ha sido evacuada y los insumos se han agotado.

Hemos pensado en hacerlo en Cancún, pero la gente de Holbox ha sido una pieza fundamental de esta iniciativa y pensamos que debemos conservar Holbox como sede)

Como consecuencia, hemos decidido posponer la Conferencia.

Algunos de ustedes me han escrito diciendo que parte importante de venir es ver la agregación de tiburón ballena en vivo, misma que se da de mayo a agosto de cada año, habiendo mas animales y mejor condiciones del mar en agosto (si no hay huracanes).

Entonces: 1º. Realizaremos la Conferencia en Holbox.

2º. Las fechas pueden ser finales de Noviembre o fines de agosto, considerando el 30 de agosto “Día del Tiburón Ballena en  México”.

3º. Para definir las fechas, consideraremos su opiniones durante la semana siguiente para tener una decisión consensuada.
