Database sorting

Hello Brad & Jason,
I'm using Mozilla as browser, but the database sorting does not seem to work.
<<Click any column heading to sort by that field>>
Is there any other browser supporting this feature? Would be very helpful.

Hi Petra,
I had the same problem, I have sent you email.
If you key in the number of the whale sharks ie R-005 onwards you can see the data entered for each one - its up to 10 now!
Best regards,
Helen

Hi Helen,
thanks for the advise. But somehow it does not work. Key the shark where?
In sharks or encounters?
Regards
Petra

Hi Helen and Petra,
I locked out the public sorting a few months ago for non-login users because the backend data crunching required per sort was slowing down the web server, and we get several thousand visitors per day, all of whom may want sorts through the large number of encounters.
Recently, the hardware behind the Library was upgraded to meet the increased usage enabled by Brad's Rolex Award for Enterprise. It might be powerful enough now to turn that back on, but I'll need to test. We're also going to be upgrading the database itself shortly, which will give a different set of performance specs too (but the new DB should outperform the old one).
In the meantime, you can look at the identified sharks from the Red Sea (R-001 to R-010) by typing in the number in the "Shark Number" box on the right top of whaleshark.org. I have promised Helen that I would create a Red Sea portal to see all identified whale sharks and reported whale shark encounters from your region, but I can't give an ETA on that right now as we're ramping up for the Mexico conference in 10 days, but it is a priority.
Cheers,
Jason
